Fristads signs the new International Accord agreement

Fristads shows its continuous support by signing the new International Accord for Health and Safety in the Garment and Textile Industry. Through the agreement trade unions and companies join efforts to ensure a safe work environment in the garment industry.

“Safety always comes first for us no matter if it’s the safety for the people helping us produce our products or the people who wear our garments to work every day. We believe that the new agreement will help us to continue our engagement for fair and safe working conditions in Bangladesh”, says Anders Hülse, Managing Director of Fristads.

By signing the agreement with UNI Global Union and IndustriALL Global Union, Fristads commit to the health and safety work already undertaken in Bangladesh and to the expansion of country-specific health and safety programmes based on the principles of the 2013 and 2018 Accord agreements which was created in the aftermath of the Rana Plaza tragedy in which more than 1,000 garment workers died after the building collapsed.

“Many of the challenges in the textile sector are systemic and cannot be solved by a single company. For this reason, working on multi-stakeholder initiatives is an important part of our work. They provide us with the unique opportunity to work alongside like-minded businesses and organisations and ensure that our sustainable work remain successful in the long term”, Anders says.
